Entrepreneurial Spark
Where does entrepreneurial spark originate? Well isn’t that just the question! And, I suspect this might just be the point. The fact that it is called a ‘spark’ is reflective of the immediacy of the entrepreneurial urge. For we are dynamic individuals who join the dots and problem solve in the blink of an eye. When asked to trace back and say how we did that that, we probably cannot identify the process. We saw a problem and we solved it! They ‘why’s and wherefore’s’ no longer concern us because we have the answer we sought.
We might however find ourselves behaving in an impatient manner more often than we would like. This might particularly arise with our nearest and dearest. I don’t know about you, but, whilst I can have the patience of a saint with a client, I can be a cutting sod towards my husband. Whilst I know he doesn’t deserve this, there are times when I simply cannot comprehend how he cannot see what I can see…. especially when time is of the essence. I can easily believe that he is being obstructive….
Of course this is not the case, he just works differently to me. He brings different strengths to our team. I am just not always ready or willing to acknowledge them because I am in two much of a hurry….this is the shadow side of my entrepreneurial spark. My dark side can be dark indeed.
I was given a reality check recently. A good friend volunteered this thought for me to play with: “just imagine if there were two ‘You’s’ in your marriage” and I did have to laugh. “Two Me’s” anywhere would be an entirely self-destructive entity. Best we don’t try this combination – ever.
So if you find that, in your entrepreneurial spark, you resent the speed at which your nearest and dearest operate…. have a little trust that they are probably doing you a great service. These people will be your equal and opposite. These are the people who keep you tethered to the planet. That is a very useful anchor indeed.
