Mentoring Job
Mentoring job: Is it not the job of each and every one of us to mentor those who need our support? Is this not a community obligation? Is it not a responsibility of each and everyone of us to be generous with what we have ourselves been shown? Is it not a real ethical stand point to take if we can prevent others from gaining the bumps and bruises we experienced along the way? If people are not ready or receptive to guidance, they will find their own way.
Some people take the wisdom that is offered without you even knowing that a transaction has taken place. I adore those moments when someone says “do you remember when you says XY&Z three years ago, well I tried it, and it worked for me” ……and I’m left standing there with no recollection of that conversation, but, a deep gratitude for the outcome.
Perhaps we can never fully account for the impact we have in others lives. Perhaps all we can contact to be is the best that we can be, and be kind, and be generous enough to notice when someone near us begins to falter or fear. To give of ourselves generously and fearlessly, to mentor with our vulnerability not our achievements, to celebrate openly and to share without direct gain, this is what life is about.
This kind of mentoring job brings its own rewards, both personably and collectively. As individuals learn and feel cared for, we create cohesive communites. What else is there in life but the sense of belonging that springs from giving and receiving. The sense of belonging that arises from seeing another individual begin to flourish once again, where we have had some input. This is the stuff of human life.
