Career Coaching: Impact
Career Coaching: Impact — One of the things I adore about coaching is the privilege of seeing the outcomes of this work in the long run.
This takes many different forms: It can be a delightful and unexpected email from far-flung foreign lands celebrating a client’s achievement. This work goes far and wide in the world.
It can be a client who returns for a session some years after our initial work. And thus, we get the opportunity to see how far they have come. And then, we get the chance to figure out their next iteration.
I’ll get a little message saying ‘a bit stuck,’ and we reconvene to do the deep dive.
Some self-employed clients have worked out they are much more effective within the structure of organisations. They are now in senior leadership positions. This work feeds the development of healthy organisational cultures.
Career Coaching: Impact
Some have been trapped in corporate and have dropped out. They have joined start-ups and been pivotal in their upscale. And now they recognise it’s time to bring all that wisdom to starting an organisation of their own. These creatures know that whilst starting small that in the long run, this won’t be small-scale endeavours.
And thus, this work feeds the emergent business landscape.
When I qualified as a coach over 12 years ago, I imagined that I would only be influencing the person sitting in front of me. Very swiftly, I could see anyone who came into contact with a coachee was likely to be impacted. A decade or so on, I can see this work is entirely systemic – once an individual knows their Why … their How can shape-shift, and their influence can go SO far out into the world.
I may never know how far this travels, which is none of my business. However, I do take great satisfaction in seeing the glimpses I get of clients working hard to influence the world for good.
The world might seem to be in meltdown, but perhaps that’s exactly why the time is right to bring forth that idea that could contribute to its renewal.
