How do I know which career coach to trust?
How do I know which career coach to trust? — And it is an excellent question these days. When I created this role for myself, over a decade ago, there were very few career coaches in the UK
.
Now, there are a plethora of coaches offering what probably appear from the outside, to be very similar services at a wide variety of prices. — Or, even worse: Coaches who refuse to share their prices at all — Personally this fills me with terror – I have a fear of getting inextricably entwined in a coaching relationship that I can’t afford – I’m never sure this is a good marketing strategy!
.
So, how DO you know who to trust?
Ok, here’s the grown-up bit – it is ALWAYS a case of putting trust in yourself.
.
I know — that’s probably not what you wanted to hear. On a level there’s a little bit of all of who just wants to told what to do — why do you think ‘Which” has had such longevity.
.
— However, this is not how people-stuff works: Why? Because we are ALL different and ALL coaches are different and it is within the UNIQUE crucible of The Relationship that the alchemy takes place.

So, HOW do you decide? The Best way I know is to meet with a few coaches. Ask questions. Be honest about what you seek. MOST of all NEVER feel obligated to make a commitment on the spot. It’s really good to reflect on the conversation you’ve just had. Zoom out from it. See it in the context of your life. — AND, do you know the BEST metric? Listen to your body for the body holds great wisdom. My suggestion is — quit ‘thinking’ about it, and instead, sleep on it, let your deeper knowing provide you with the answer.
.
You DO know which coach is right for you. What you need to do in order to make a good decision is to learn to listen to yourself.
.
I’m not a cheap coach at £1500 for three months bespoke one to one work. However, I am a bloody good coach.

A recent client (and this is an anecdotal story from his wife), having spent an hour of working with me, walked out of this first session proclaiming “I know who I am!” (He is a disruptor)— And walked immediately into his first directorship — They stopped the interview half way through and said “We want you”. HOWEVER, only by us meeting will we know if we are a good fit and, what possibilities lie in the space between us.
