What is the Meaning of Career Coaching? — My main role as a career coach is to help you see your potential and mirror it back to you. From that place, you can make good choices about your next professional steps.
But why can you not see your own brilliance?
The rationales behind this live in a multitude of places;
Firstly, you are WAY too close to yourself. When you compare your inside with other people’s outside, you will inevitably come off worse.

Secondly, you hold within you ALL the layers of who you have been—you are like a Russian doll on the inside. It is very difficult to hold on to your current, fully-formed self when you consider applying for that new role or considering taking the risk of making a career U-turn. You and the 7-year-old you and the 17-year-old you will all have an opinion about that!

Thirdly, you have internalised all the negative beliefs that you have been gifted by authority figures throughout your life—all the parents, teachers, bosses, older siblings, politicians, religious figures … as rebellious as we might consider ourselves to be, these pivotal creatures still hold sway in our brains, decades later.

And, there’s the negativity-bias in our brains that wants to keep us safe but is mainly holding us back by evidencing just how dangerous everything is when really it’s time for it to stand down and get out of the way.

And, there’s the command from outside, from Society that tells us it is dangerous, arrogant, and foolhardy to celebrate ourselves, and thus we choose not to see the best in ourselves and thus cannot be our most powerful and potent selves because we believe that pride comes before a fall … and thus we choose to stay small.

Finally, there’s a gender split. Research done by Niamh Okeefe (“Your first 100 Days”) shows that men will only seek to have 50 % of the skills listed on a job application before they apply.
Whilst women will expect themselves to know them all — That’s gonna get in the way of you hanging your next move FOREVER . . .
. . . as the best way to learn something is to do it, and thus, you need to HAVE the job to get the skill
