Career Coaching: Do You Give Career Advice?

Career Coaching: Do You Give Career Advice? It’s an interesting question and the short answer is “No”.

The long answer to the same question is STILL “No” but, if you’re interested then I shall explain why:

For all my qualifications and experience, I cannot tell anyone what job to do or which sector to choose next.  Those who come for career coaching have long been suffering from the ailments of “doing what they were told to do”.
.
“They have studied hard, qualified highly, and worked their way up through organisations. They have played by the rules and STILL, it’s not working out.”
 .
They have studied hard, qualified highly, and worked their way up through organisations. They have played by the rules and STILL, it’s not working out.

And, it’s not working out precisely BECAUSE they DID do what was expected of them. They may be ‘successful’ by external standards. However, people do not show up to career coaching because they are happy or stimulated by their by the work that they do. All this investment in time and money has led them into a cul de sac and worse, it is a cul de sac where they don’t even know what the alternative is …and, they may not even know who they are anymore.
