Leadership Styles
Here’s an explanation of Leadership Styles from Wise Toast, and, If I were to pitch for one, I would cite:
“4. Transformational Leadership
Unlike other leadership styles, transformational leadership is all about initiating change in organizations, groups, oneself and others.
Transformational leaders motivate others to do more than they originally intended and often even more than they thought possible. They set more challenging expectations and typically achieve higher performance.
Statistically, transformational leadership tends to have more committed and satisfied followers. This is mainly so because transformational leaders empower followers.”
Also I lead by example. This is not always the best way to lead but, for me, it is the most congruent. It seems to me to be unfair to expect others to go where I would fear to tread.
Team leadership had me hovering over a 50ft viaduct, white faced and terrified, in an effort to prove to my 15 volunteers that abseiling was a good idea. It also had me in foetal-position, in a cave, barely able to breathe with claustrophobia, as another 15 team members crawled into that tight space, in service of role-modelling pot-holing for them. Yes, sometimes I do wonder, but, without them, I would never have done either activity… and…. I would have less appreciation of both the solid ground beneath my feet or free air that fills my lungs….
I also do, as I ask my clients to do, in this coaching here. I rarely suggest a client tries something that I have not or will not, do myself. I do not take these suggestions lightly. I know it is terrifying to ask for mentorship from someone you really admire. I know it is challenging to pitch your business idea to a board of senior individuals. I understand that meeting the heroine -author of your most most used industry-sector book will have you wondering just why you agreed to do this.
Personal and professional development is frightening. Personal and professional Development involves taking risks. These incremental risks are the steps that take you to realising your fullest potential. When you can own the enormity of your own possibility, you can make it real out in the world. I am really happy to lead you to this place. Autocratic leadership has no place here…….. we are heading more challenging expectations and achieving higher performance
